How to Make Any Day a Spa Day
Every girl loves a trip to the spa but in today’s fast paced world we don’t all have time to actually go to one. That’s why so many business ladies and hardworking moms are looking for ways to feel luxurious right in their own homes. Here are a few quick and easy do-it-yourself tips to help you feel like you just spent a day at the spa.
Pick Up Supplies
A huge part of why you feel so pampered when you go to the spa is because their products and surroundings are all foreign to you. They don’t feel mundane or every day. To beat this feeling at home, stop at your local drugstore and pick up a new body scrub (try apricot or shea butter) and a new lotion to match. Choose scents that you really enjoy, but maybe don’t use very often or are out of season. The point is to go with something you normally wouldn’t.
Set The Scene
On your spa day make sure that you’re in an area free of major distractions. If you hate dirty dishes, don’t leave a sink full as it will stress you out to look at it and you won’t be able to relax. If possible, dim the lights and light some scented candles. Lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint are all relaxing scents that smell great. Trade the TV background noise for some soothing music. You don’t have to go as far as putting on Enya or a “Sounds of the Ocean” cd, but you should put something on that calms you.
Do Some Treatments
Start out with a nice hot bath. Add some scented bubbles or bath salts to make it feel extra special. After you’ve soaked a little and dried off, use your new scented lotion to add even more luxury. Instead of throwing on a pair of jeans, wear a comfy robe or some pajamas. You’re supposed to be at a spa, remember? Next is the classic spa treatment, a manicure and a pedicure. Choose a polish that you don’t usually pick. Maybe a bright spring color if it’s wintertime or go for French tips if you usually paint solids. Switching it up will make it feel extra special. Your cuticles will be easy to work after your bath, so you shouldn’t need to soak them first either.
Lounge Around
After your treatments, throw on a soothing face mask and simply lounge around. Have a mini-marathon of your favorite guilty pleasure television show. Don’t be afraid to dig into a container of Ben & Jerry’s either. I like to make brownies on my spa days and top them off with a big scoop of vanilla bean. You can also browse through those magazines that have been piling up or that novel you haven’t seemed to finish. Whatever it is, pick something that relaxes you and makes you happy.
The whole point of a spa day is to relax, so don’t put too much stress into planning or sticking to a schedule. Pick a night where you are free and just relax. Little specifics, like the scent of the candles or the type of face mask you buy, don’t matter at all. As long as you feel calm and relaxed, it’s the perfect spa treatment.
